PADKOS NO 46
Padkos Event: Tuesday, 18 February, 1:30 for light lunch; 2pm for the discussion – all happening at the CLP office.
Jacques Briard is a long-time friend of committed, ecumenical struggle and activism in South Africa. Before the Church Land Programme (CLP) even existed, Jacques was a trusted connection to international solidarity networks and donor support for the then Pietermaritzburg Agency for Christian Social Awareness, PACSA – one of the two organisations that effectively gave birth to the CLP project. He is still connected to the Belgian-Catholic agency, Entraide et Fraternité, and remains committed.
He’s in South Africa at the moment representing CIDSE at the Durban events commemorating another legend in South African church-based activism, Archbishop Hurley. CIDSE is a lay-led Catholic network of 17 member organisations from Europe and North America fighting poverty and inequality with partner organizations in Africa, Asia and Latin America – “It is the voices of our partners in the South which we intend to make heard at key events at European, North American and international level” (http://www.cidse.org/content/general-content/who-we-are.html).
He’s agreed to spend some time with friends of CLP in a conversation about the relationship between the Church/es and the evolving situation in South Africa. Please join us on Tuesday, 18 February, for a light lunch at 1:30 and we’ll get things going from 2pm.
Please RSVP to Cindy at (033) 2644 380 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
